Garnet began her career in State Government in 1984 working in the Florida Governor’s Press office. After 4 years she accepted a position with the Florida Department of Health, Board of Pharmacy.
She served 17 years with the Board of Pharmacy. During her time with the Board office, she was responsible for the licensing process for pharmacy permits, pharmacists and all other pharmacy professions. Garnet was responsible for speaking at Florida Colleges of Pharmacy and statewide professional associations annual conventions and meetings on the licensure process.
She served as the Program Administrator for the Board of Pharmacy and was responsible for the operations of the office. She coordinated Board of Pharmacy meetings and committee meetings throughout the state. Garnet received the MQA Leadership Award for her accomplishments during her time with the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
In 2006 she accepted a position within the Division of Medical Quality Assurance to manage the Division's continuing education audit team. This team was responsible for performing the continuing education audits for all healthcare professions.
In 2013 the Division moved from a post-audit to requiring licensees in all professions to electronically report continuing education prior to license renewal. Garnet was the project manager for the continuing education integration project.
The communication outreach required notifying over 1 million licensees of the change in the renewal process. Garnet represented the Department at statewide professional association meetings throughout the state and offered webinars to train licensees on the new license renewal process, continuing education requirements and reporting continuing education electronically to the Department.
Garnet received numerous MQA awards and recognition, as well as recognition from the Governor, for her efforts with the “Are You Renewal Ready?” campaign.
Garnet is not only familiar with the Pharmacy professions, she has knowledge of the license renewal process and continuing education requirements for all healthcare professions licensed by the Division of Medical Quality Assurance.
Garnet retired from the Florida Department of Health with 33 years of service.
